Photo Oncidium spilopterum is a not often seen species that is generally 8-10" tall when mature, 2/3 of which is leaf. The flowering habit is unusual, with just a few blooms clustered at the end of a medium length spike. The blooms themselves are 1" with brown segments, a distinct purple callous and a large yellow lip with no markings. We grow this species in intermediate temps, high around 90, either mounted or in small pots, light about 3000 FC. They will tolerate drought but would prefer to be watered when just getting dry.
